HPD solo bike officer seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Kapolei

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An HPD solo bike officer is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the Kapolei area Wednesday evening.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. on Farrington Highway westbound, near Laaloa Street and Kamokila Community Park.
Officials said a 61-year-old driver pulled off to the right shoulder where he collided with the officer who was also traveling in the right shoulder.
The officer was thrown onto the roadway. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
HPD said the solo bike officer was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The 61-year-old driver and his two juvenile passengers were uninjured.
It’s not known why the driver went into the shoulder lane and the investigation is ongoing.
Neither speed, drugs, or alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash, HPD said.
