Up for auction is a used, very unique, great condition Cooperman 14"x24" First Infantry Division Bass Drum. NO RESERVE.
As shown in the photos, this drum has some minor nicks and scuff marks. It features 12 leather tension sleeves and rope for tightening the Remo Fiberskyn 3FA bass drum heads. The drum has two round, brass grommets for venting and there is a brass badge with number 604 engraved on it.
There are two brass eyelets for connecting bass drum straps to enable you to carry the drum while marching. The wooden rims are painted red and have holes drilled in them for the rope to pass through.
The shell has some gouge marks in it, possibly caused by the carrier rubbing on the shell. There is an exterior section about 14"x19" that is painted blue which features the different regions and battle plans listed in sequence through WW II after the invasion of D-Day, Vietnam, through Saudi Arabia and Kuwait of the 1st Infantry Division.
This is a very unique and interesting drum! The interior of the drum has a paper certificate that says, Cooperman Fife and Drum Company, Registration #604, Owner 1st Infantry Div. Band. The model of this drum is the Liberty Bass and the Date of purchase was Feb. 2003. You can see the certificate through the vent hole. We normally would feature anything written inside a drum in a photo but we decided against taking the head off to do that. That would have involved a considerable amount of work because of the rope tensioning so we opted to leave the drum as we received it.
Please check out our photos of this very unique and interesting Cooperman Fife and Drum Company drum. It's a great conversation piece! Thank you.
